Bill Cannon attended the Spring meeting of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Board of Governors. The meeting was held in the Charles R. Jonas Federal Courthouse in Charlotte April 20&21. An important part of the meeting was the report of the 2011-2012 Pro Bono Strategic Planning Task Force. That report, accepted by the Board of Governors for action to be taken later this year, included centralizing operation of the NCBA’s pro bono activities, recommending mandatory pro bono reporting to the North Carolina State Bar and expansion of the association’s 4ALL and Call4LL programs.
The board also heard a report on revamping its Legislative Advisory Committee. Among the proposals offered by the committee is the hiring of a “grass roots” coordinator, giving more discretion to the association’s lobbyist in emergency situations and prioritizing legislative submissions by sections and committees.
